Twin Action

Stars from the world of alternative music including PLACEBO, ...AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD, MOGWAI and IDLEWILD turned up to see APHEX TWIN''s NME CARLING SHOW last night (February 6).

Twin, aka Richard James, made a rare appearance at the London Astoria as part of NME's fortnight of shows.

His set was characteristically obtuse, consisting of heavy, industrial techno. A podium was erected at the centre of the stage, but Aphex instead opted to hide away at the side, controlling the beats from a small laptop computer, performing his own material spliced with other tracks.

Onlookers included Placebo vocalist Brian Molko and guitarist / bassist Stefan Olsdal, and Mogwai mainmain Stuart Braithwaite. All spent the evening on the VIP balcony, enjoying the music.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead were also in the crowd,
checking out the Astoria venue prior to their NME Carling Show this evening (February 7). Bassist Neil Busch told NME.COM that the band were relaxing after a week of promotion in the city.

He said: "I'm interested (in Aphex Twin). I have some of the records but I've never seen him. I'm interested to see what it's like."

Outside of music, investigative journalist and comedian Louis Theroux, famous for his 'Weird Weekend' BBC television series, was also at the show. He told NME.COM he was a "big" Aphex Twin) fan.

He joked: "I'm a big fan of the Aphex Twin so I paid my £12. I want to know when he's going to start spinning the sandpaper!

When asked if he planned on coming to any of the other NME shows, he
replied: "Ryan Adams? What's that all about? I'm curious. I like
Stereolab...Aphex Twin, Trail Of Dead, maybe a few others."
