| Plaid's first single
for Warp and their first EP-length (though only barely) release of new material under
their own name in more than five years. Those pining for the rhythmic complexity of
Plaid's work with Ken Downie as Black Dog Productions or of the reissue tracks on the 1995
Clear EP may be disappointed by two-thirds of this one; "Headspin" and the title
track, though nicely enough arranged, stick pretty close to loop-and-lock drum
programming. Plaid shine, however, in the least likely of places, with melodic and timbral
cross-stitching at points stepping into the circle of greatness occupied by BDP's Spanners
and Temple of Transparent Balls. A pleasant (if flawed) return.
